to be the top winner. meanwhile, back here at home harry reid has said, well, we are going to have -- try to get a gun control bill to the floor, it will include no assault weapons ban. get that? not that they bring it up and vote it down. harry reid will not even let an assault weapons ban come to the floor for a vote even though the american people support it by about 55% and despite all of the great work that dianne feinstein has done on that bill. harry reid proving to be a weenie. that and more, here on current tv. democrat harry reid expressing his condolences. but also during that statement, there was an implication there that under sequestration, when budgets are cut, that we may see more of these that it may put the marines and others and soldiers at risk because of the budget cuts. now i can tell you, marine corps officials this afternoon are taking a strong exception to what harry reid implied. saying that this this exercise, for example, was planned well in advance, had nothing to do with the budget cuts. there were no corners cut. and if they couldn't afford to have all the safety precautions into place, they wouldn't do the exercise. and in fact, one marine corps told us just, one marine corps official told us a short time ago, he considers this nothing but pure political posturing on the backs of these dead marines. >> those are some very strong words from the marine corps about senator harry reid, jim miklaszewski thank you soef for being on the program. >>> tonight president obama boards air force one to go to the middle east. prospects for movement on the israeli/palestinian peace proc

. let me throw a few facts on the table. the government accountability office that works for harry reid and obama, they say 125 billion dollars in estimated improper payments in the federal government? i've got another one of their reports, 510 billion dollars of duplicative wasteful programs in the federal government. that's a lot of money. i've got another document here, a summary of the social security, medicare boards of trustees. i think they work for obama and they say here, medicare and social security cannot sustain protected long-term programs costs and that somebody needs to do something about it very fast. what has obama done about any of this? nothing about the 500 billion dollars. nothing about the 125 billion dollars. nothing about social security, medicare, or medicaid. and then they go around talking about how they care about people. they don't care about anybody. they represent big government, and that's all they represent. >> sean: and mark, the results aren't good. let's be honest here, we have 9 million people, fewer americans in the work force, and 50 million americ

through harry reid. >> this is what liberals want to know is not when hair arery reid is going to move because harry reid is not a profiles in courage leadership kind of guy. he is a will of his caucus kind of guy. he stepped out in front very few times. generally what he does is reflect the general consensus of his caucus. if he is going to move and take a chance it has to be because the president is pushing him, pushing him, pushing him and we heard from senator feinstein last week the president they believe that nothing is going to happen unless he gets out in front and leads on this. remember, this is one of the three gs for liberals in the second obama term. gay marriage. global warming and guns. and these are the three biggest issues for the left and if the president looks like he is dragging his feet on this they will get cranky and then to take us back to senator king's point they will be less inclined to do something that they have already shown very little in krieneation to do which is to address the long-term drivers of the debt meddeficit particularly did i. >> shannon: sen

of day. today democrats dropped a key provision from their gun bill the assault weapons ban because harry reid said it didn't have the votes to pass. senator dianne feinstein who introduced the ban said it this way. i cannot fight the nra. the nra spends unlimited sums backed by the gun manufacturer who are craven in my view. i don't know what we can done other than drafting a bill. in asking for support and enabling something to pass in the senate now i could put a hold on the whole package but i'm not going to do that. so instead the rest of the gun safety bill will go forward without the assault weapons ban. of course there is a possibility it could be attached to a later bill but certainly there is not a guarantee. gun safety is fast becoming a low priority in washington. and another is immigration. john boehner praised the bipartisan house group working on immigration legislation. >> there are a lot of issues in here that have to be dealt with and i think what this bipartisan group came up with is frankly a pretty responsible solution. >> michael: sounds like progress but of course t

don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything. harry reid looked weak yesterday when he stood in front of the camera and almost conceded, we don't have the votes. go out and get them. if that's what you feel for and feel strongly about it, make it happen. i'm shoorry. you can fault the republicans for their views but the republicans will fight until the end for something they believe in. >> tiffany, i'll let you get in. we're going to have to move on to a different subject. i want to talk about an online question from jada pinkett smith, the actress, married to will smith. the actress said she's not pointing fingers, but she's pushing buttons when she talks about white women on the covers of black magazines. pinkett smith posted this question on facebook, here it is. she said if we ask our white sisters who tend to be the guardians of the covers of mainstream magazines to consider women of color to grace these magazines, should we not offer the same consideration to white women to grace our covers? should women extend their powers to other women simply because they are women?

, what harry reid said. we know it's true because we've been reporting on this show really since the gun debate reignited after newtown that it's not just because republicans oppose it. it's also because of democrats, particularly in the senate. in fact, if you look at, we have a set of compiled -- some faces and names of democratic senators. if you look there's about a dozen. these are senators who have either outright said, no way to assault weapons ban, or those who run from us in the hallway when we try to ask or somewhere in between. the reason is most of them come from states where they're the whole concept of gun rights runs very wide and very deep. it would be cultural heresy many of them think to ban any kind of gun and to vote for that. the senators here may support other gun control like background checks or limiting high capacity ammunition clips, even trafficking, and so the thinking and it really has been all along, is that if they put the assault weapons ban in this broad gun control package, then the whole thing will go down whereas if they take it out, and put it as an a
